Project Run & Play Week 2: Vacation Theme

Alright, week 2
You know Lily's favorite colors (pink&purple, duh), and you know she's crazy particular about what she wears, so when I saw THIS PIN on pinterest and loved the pants- I asked her if she'd wear them. She assured me that she would as long as they were the bright colors that were pictured. At Joann's I was able to locate a pastel-ish pink and yellow, and so the pink was purchased.

The last two years we've taken a family vacation to California where we visit family and the ocean. It's been so wonderful and I can't wait to go back. I doubt that will be this year with the new baby and house, but it's certainly not off my list.

Here we are at the ocean, soaking in the sun. It's November so warm apparel was still necessary.

Oh my, look how tiny Archer is!

... And here he is on the beach in Florida last year.

and because we couldn't get enough sunny beach goodness, we went back to California.

Can you tell I miss being here? It's SO beautiful.

So when I thought of the vacation theme, I thought back to spending time on warm beaches with family.  Digging in the sand for shells or remnants of crabs to put back together like puzzles, and walking barefoot through tide pools.

The most difficult part of the outfit was the shirt. Not because it was a difficult shirt, this pattern is great. The first attempt at a classic tee was unimpressive at best and it's sitting on my ironing board. Some patterns don't do well when using  different width& length cut lines, and can make less than appealing results.

This one, I adore!

It's the racerback dress (a free pattern by crafterhours). I made the pattern in a size 3-4 and cut it off to be a tank rather than a dress. I also chose to leave the bottom unfinished because it seemed to fit the fabric nicely. Check out those matching stripes.

I matched the contrast back of the shirt with the back pockets of her pants. I love the hint of the items going together without over emphasizing them as a pair.

The capri's are a cropped off pair of the Small Fry Skinny Jeans. After hearing all the rave reviews, I picked up the pattern. The flat felled seams make these the cleanest pair of pants I've made thus far.

To accomodate Lily's tiny figure, I cut the pattern out using a size 3t width and a size 6t length, then cropped them right below the knee.

I don't think you can really tell, but the belt loops were almost the end of me. It was the last thing I had to do and my machine was throwing a huge fit about them. I think I ripped the same one out six times? I didn't give up, I just pressed and worked those suckers through.

Everything fits her beautifully. Making her capri's in a 3t width was nerve-wracking considering how much detail work they require. Though once she slipped those babies on and they fit, it was all worth it.
I wanted so badly to take better photo's, but the forecast has been quite difficult this week. All rain and gloomy days, boooo!

I think it's driving Lily a little nuts too. I would only let her put the outfit on for photos and then  told her when it was a nice day she could wear it. She didn't love that answer and has been eyeballing the clothes sitting on her bench waiting for that promised day. Poor girl!

  1. That's such a cute outfit! The jeans look amazing and I love that striped knit. I always try to take account of what my children like too, they're so much more likely to wear what I've made then. It looks like you've made your daughter very happy.

    1. I completely agree- I use to make my style of clothing and it sat in the closet rarely worn. That's the worst! Now I just let her be her as long as it's weather appropriate. Life is much simpler now. :)

    1. YES! If we could get some opportunity to wear these warm clothes I'd be all the happier. This has been such a rough winter. I picture myself eighty still saying "do you remember the winter when we all learned the word polar vortex?" lol

    1. Thanks! I've made a couple pairs of jeans before, but this pair is my all time favorite. Those flat felled seams sounded like work- but they were really easy and keep everything looking amazing!
