Project Run & Play Challenge 1: The Popover Sundress Flip

First I'll discuss the changes I've made to the original pattern:

1. Took the top of the bodice off& redrafted a scoop neck bodice with button closures
2. I  cut the front with extra fabric to gather & create the more billowy front
3. Lined the inside to make it possible for the sheer outer layer

I just adore the tie-dyed sheer fabric. Honestly, I had JUST purchased it but cannot remember what it was.

The bodice is created from a loose woven linen. I lined it with the same cotton and the skirt lining so there was a soft fabric touching her skin.

I wanted a simple & practical back so the dress would fit nicely& created this v-back. It does the job well and stays on her shoulders nicely.

The big chunky wooden buttons follow the natural look I wanted it to have. I love having jars of buttons handed down from grandmothers& family members to sift through. These worked so nicely with the linen.

I had a blast putting this together!

Hope you all have a great day!

  1. Love it!!! Love the fabric and the lines and the fit! It is gorgeous and is the perfect accessory to your darling daughter! :)

    1. My biggest struggle? finding shoes to go with it lol. I'm still not so big on these white ones with the big flower on top but they worked! lol Thanks Karly!

  3. It's lovely! That fabric is beautiful, and I adore the gathers. The overall effect is soft and serene -- very pretty!

  4. That fabric is pretty cool - reminds me of watercolor painting. The scoop neck and buttons are darling, and V backs are my favorite(cute and functional)!

  5. Those buttons are my favorite thing, but I liked your chances.

  6. Love what you did with the bodice. The fabric is to die for. The dress is super cute!

  7. I like that you considered how it would feel on the inside for your daughter. I know that my granddaughter is so sensitive to the feel of the outfit.

  8. How lovely! I would wear this :p So pretty and so well thought out!

  9. Mae,
This is stinking awesome. I wouldn't even recognize that it was the Oliver+S pattern. Beautiful combination of design and fabric. You are a rockstar.
