Wearing My Work: Baby Skye Maxine

Before baby was born I had sewn up some clothing for her to wear, and while I LOVE showing what I create right away - it's always fun to come back to them to see what they look like while on the baby!

Here's a geranium dress I made. Though it was newborn it took her a couple of weeks before she could put it on. Really though, she was only 7 lbs at birth and filled out very quickly, making this an adorable staple in her wardrobe.

I like that the pattern on the fabric makes it easy to pair with onesies - much easier to adjust it to be weather appropriate.

Here's the last dress I made before she was born. I had a bit of an inkling that she would be a girl, and thank goodness I was correct. I would have been a tad bit sad to see all these lovely items given to another precious baby,  but that's how it goes when you wait to find out the sex.

Lastly, here is one of the unisex outfits I made. This was upcycled from one of dads favorite shirts that had become stained and had a few holes in it. Because baby clothing is so tiny, I was able to find pieces that were clean and hole free for it& it holds a special meaning. Plus it's so soft. I have her in this quite often.

So, the fourth of July is coming up this weekend and I'm ready to jump on my machine and start creating a themed dress for my Lily girl. She grew out of a lot of her summer clothing from last year and many of the dresses she's still wearing are SHORT. I just have her wear shorts under them, but they also need to be replaced with new items because they certainly aren't going to make it to fall let alone next summer.
I look back at the dresses I've made her and which ones she prefers to wear... and guess what? Many of the items she wears over and over are themed or have some sort of decoration on them. So, even though I like a quick sew and basics, Lily Mae prefers embellished and intricate items. I guess this summer's sewing will be a theme of quality over quantity. Rather than making many basic dresses, I need to focus on making them FUN and enticing to wear. I can dig that!
