With baby Crawford version 3.0 ready to make it's entrance at any time, I feel like today's review and giveaway fits right in. Emily from Tangible Pursuits contacted me several weeks ago regarding her Fox Lovey pattern. I had admired Emily's Fox Lovey on her facebook page and commented to tell her it was adorable - needless to say, I was happy when asked review the pattern and excited that she was generously going to offer one of my readers the chance to win it.
YAY!
This was only my second time creating a plush animal, so my experience with her pattern is coming from that perspective. My first attempt (The Plush Pony) was successful but a struggle since I chose a more complex pattern (silly me). With the Fox Lovey, I appreciated the clear and simple instructions& photos, the clearly labeled pattern pieces, and the professional look of the finished blanket. I have been sewing many years and my family has seen much of my work- but when my mother looked it she said "You MADE that?!" which really shows that you can use her directions to create a beautiful baby lovey.
The original fox lovey is in the traditional orange- though my Joann's didn't have that darker orange color that is so classic and gorgeous. Instead, I chose to create a grey fox. At first I was a bit sad, but after putting it together, I love the grey! I also chose to embroider my foxes eyes on rather than use felt and I added a couple of small ribbon tags to the corner seams because the coordinating ribbon was too perfect.
The blue fabric is also from Joann's and features simple woodland creatures. I was given it at my baby shower from a good friend and I'm really glad that I could make something so sweet with it. I purchased a half of a yard of the grey and I believe the woodland creatures fabric was 1 yard - this gives me quite a bit of fabric leftover to make a second (you know how attached children can get!).
Now it's your turn!

that's funny that your mom was so impressed that you made this. 3-D stuffed animals do seem to be perceived as something more complicated to make than clothes, but I'm not sure they really are - when you think about it, an article of clothing is a 3-D item as well because it has to fit around your body.
ReplyDeleteYes, that's a really good point! I definitely think the grey oober-soft fabric gives it a nice finish, but either way the pattern itself is just adorable! Thanks for asking me to review! <3
DeleteI love the fox design in gray! Seems so calming.
ReplyDeleteThanks!!
DeleteI'm actually really happy the store didn't have orange now. :)
This looks so professional and perfect! I love it. Best wishes on your impending arrival. P.S. you should link this up with Tuesday Sews at PiePie Designs!
ReplyDeleteThank you Lisa! Each day I think "is this the day?" but I guess baby is perfectly happy staying in the belly. &thanks for the link up reminder!
DeleteThis is adorable! I would have to agree with you too. The orange one is adorable, but there's just something about the grey! Can't wait for this baby to make it's appearance!!
ReplyDeleteI'm am super crossing my fingers that baby gets attached to this lovey since I can make more later- I HATE trying to track down a special blanket/toy that is no longer in production!
DeleteI am stuck on fox for the moment, do not know why. Maybe it's the color. Hope you've had the baby by now.
