Winter Pajamas in Indigo + Unicorns

Winter is certainly closing in on us here in the Midwest. Even though the forecast says we'll have quite a few 40 degree days (what?!) this month, I'm not a winter person and prefer above all else, to be in sweltering heat with no air conditioning. So, to me it's still pretty cold. haha
Which has led me to make my oldest some new snuggly pajamas. She loves those pajama sets that have a matching top and bottom. We get them given to us from friends who have older children, but she has shot up another few inches and it's leaving her ankles a bit exposed. I thought I better take matters into my own seamstress hands rather than go purchase a new set. It sure does feel good to have practical skills. :)

Small Fry Skinny Jeans in Floral

Another installment of skinny jeans for winter here today. I picked up this fabric a month or so ago and didn't expect that it would take me THIS long to make them. Oh well, the weather got warmer for a bit and has now dipped back down and she'll certainly need them.

Winter Sewing

Hey guys!

I thought I'd check back in with you quickly to show some of the projects I've been tackling in my absence. I totally have the in-laws coming over in a bit to eat pizza (yay, Friday night!) and then take the two big kids to stay with them. That's means a bit of television and some sewing is in my near future!

KCW Day 2 - finishing Firestar

Alright, Day 2 people.

I've got myself a Halloween deadline and I'm not about to fail. Firestar has been completed.

For the top I used the new Titchy Threads pattern - The Rowan Tee. It's amazing. So many options that my head spins thinking of them all. I used the basic shirt pattern without stripes and the hood option. That way it can be warm and useful after beggars night.

Pants were made using the Go To Leggings. They've worked wonderfully for everything I've made, this included. I knew the fleece didn't have as much stretch as the pattern calls for, so I added zippers into the seam and wah-la!

Gloves were made using a free pattern I found online, though it was for adults so I modified it to fit my child.

Mask was another online find- I just googled children's mask template and found one that was a Mardi Gras mask. I didn't even have to change the shape. Apparently Firestar likes her some Mardi Gras.

Hm, I think that's it.

Wish me luck as I begin to dive into a Batman outfit. My son stated today that I'd be making him a Transformers outfit, aaagh. Kids and their ever-changing opinions. I did my best to explain that mommy is already making Batman and we can look at making a different costume afterwards. He seemed ok with it. Crisis averted.

See you tomorrow!!

KCW Day 1 - Firestar

Day 1 of KCW

Thank goodness that this round is right before Halloween. I need one more reason to get in my sewing room and get these costumes done or I'll be up the night before beggars night cursing.

Astro Boy - Project Run & Play 80's Cartoon Sew-a-long

Another season of Project Run & Play is upon us.
It's a fun competition full of themes and drama. Yes, only one can be the winner- but for the rest of us, there's the sew-a-long. I've been participating for many seasons now and truly enjoy looking at each seamstresses work, gaining both inspiration and motivation to push my limitations further and further.

So, week 1. The theme is one near and dear to our hearts... anyone who spent their Saturday morning or after school hours plastered intently to a television screen knows exactly what I'm talking about- 80's cartoons yo.

Wearing My Work: Baby Skye Maxine

Before baby was born I had sewn up some clothing for her to wear, and while I LOVE showing what I create right away - it's always fun to come back to them to see what they look like while on the baby!

Here's a geranium dress I made. Though it was newborn it took her a couple of weeks before she could put it on. Really though, she was only 7 lbs at birth and filled out very quickly, making this an adorable staple in her wardrobe.

KCW Wrap Up & Mix N' Match Gender Neutral Baby Outfits

I finished KCW feeling amazed at all of the items I managed to sew in a weeks time. Here's a pile of my baby items. It didn't have Lily's green dress since she was wearing it at the time of the photograph.

Project Run & Play Week 2: Vacation Theme

Alright, week 2
You know Lily's favorite colors (pink&purple, duh), and you know she's crazy particular about what she wears, so when I saw THIS PIN on pinterest and loved the pants- I asked her if she'd wear them. She assured me that she would as long as they were the bright colors that were pictured. At Joann's I was able to locate a pastel-ish pink and yellow, and so the pink was purchased.

The last two years we've taken a family vacation to California where we visit family and the ocean. It's been so wonderful and I can't wait to go back. I doubt that will be this year with the new baby and house, but it's certainly not off my list.

Tiny Things in Mustard and Black

After making the mustard and black Caroline Party Dress for the store, I kept the smaller cuts sitting out and just kind of eyed them. I really love the look of black and mustard together for both boys and girls. Anyways, after letting the fabric sit for something like a week I finally used it...

Surfer Slacks in Khaki and Navy Blue

Good morning!
I'm rarely up before 6:30 am as I am pretty fond of sleeping but this morning Archer wasn't having it. He was up yelling before six so I pulled him into bed thinking it would give me at LEAST until 6:45 am to wake up. Instead, he poked me a while, demanded my blanket saying "It's MINE MINE MINE!", and told me the window was open. Anyways, I gave up and now here I am. So, good morning and I hope you had the chance to wake up leisurely this morning.

Pajama Pants in Brown and Red

More pajama pants?
Yes.
Although I truly enjoy the creative process of sewing, my main concern is that my kids get what they need because I rarely (and I mean VERY rarely) go purchase items that my children need. I don't do a lot of "shopping around" when they are lacking the essential clothing items, instead I dig into my stash and make the items. Which is probably why I spent my daily sewing time, aka naptime, sewing a doggie diaper yesterday. It was the LAST thing I wanted to be sewing, but it was the first thing our family needed right now. So I done did it.

Pajama Pants & Thrift Shop Finds

I was absent last week from the blog so the projects I was working on have accrued in a nice little "to-do list" for blog-writing that I keep on my kitchen table. I totally get that consistent posting is good, but enjoying each and every day is a huge priority for me. So, when we have sunshine, I push my computer aside and take my kids to the zoo or the library or somewhere we can get OUT and move. It tends to mess with my blog posts, but my children (and I) are so much happier! I'm sure anyone else living in a climate where winters are cold and icky can understand.

Plus it leaves this week with lots of new posts, which is pretty fun.

Sewing for Baby - Stripes + Red

With just three months of time before our newest addition is scheduled to arrive, I'm moving along well with little baby items to welcome him or her into our lives. Just because we aren't finding out the sex, doesn't mean the sewing has to wait.

Floral Skinny Jeans #2

Hey guys!

Right smack dab in the middle of Project Run & Play I decided it was time to finish sewing up the second pair of Skinny Jeans I had cut out for Lily. I'm sure I've mentioned it before, but I really dislike clutter and I really get hard on myself if I don't finish a project. So, once I cut something out, I am basically ensuring that it will be finished shortly thereafter or my head will explode (jk but you get what I mean!).

Lily's Winter Outfit Revealed

Happy 2014 everyone!

This post is coming late, as I mentioned last week, because of a computer issue.
I will say, being without my computer for over a week was gruesome. All of my patterns are stored on here and all of my photo editing software is downloaded here etc etc ... it was like being stuck in a cave. So, I'm super happy to have an awesome husband who fixes all my technical dilemma's so I don't complain for too long. :)
